Lucky Cement awarded for environmental preservation

7th September 2016, Karachi The largest manufacturing unit in KPK Province, Lucky Cement Limited which is located in Darra Pezu has received the 13th Annual Environment Excellence Award 2016.
This annual award is given to companies who play a significant role in preservation of the environment and minimize environmental concerns arising from their operations. Lucky Cement has initiated numerous projects in and around its Pezu plant aimed at preserving the environment and ensuring the uplift of the quality of life of the residents of Pezu and Lakki Marwat.

In this regard, Lucky Cement has invested heavily in pro environmental technologies at its plant in Pezu, Lakki Marwat, KPK. These include the latest Waste Heat Recovery plants, numerous alternate energy projects for production and power generation, and campaigns for tree plantations in and around Pezu plant and the Lakki Marwat/DI Khan area. Lucky Cement also supported the promotion of environmental preservation and awareness through World Wildlife Fund (WWFs) Earth Hour which was held in Pezu, the only city in KPK to host this global event. Lucky Cement Pezu plant considers environmental sustainability as the core of its operations, and ensure adherence and compliance with all local and international environmental protection standards.
The company has also made significant contributions in the health sector in Pezu. Lucky Cement has set up a dispensary clinic in Pezu for providing medical facilities and treatment to the local population free of cost. This clinic has been set up specially to support the residents of the area, employees of Lucky Cement Plant in Pezu and their family members. In addition, the company has also provided a modern and state-of-the-art ambulance equipped with latest first-aid medical apparatus with the aim of serving the employees and local community of Pezu.
The 13th Annual Environment Excellence Awards ceremony, held by The National Forum for Environment and Health, took place on the occasion of a conference titled “Making our cities sustainable” at a local hotel here last week. On the occasion Provincial ministers, secretary environment, DG SEPA, representative of United Nations and other notables were also present.
“Conserving the environment is very close to our heart here at Lucky Cement, and it is because of our commitment to the environment that we have made significant contributions in making our operations green and environment friendly”, said Amin Ganny, Chief Operating Officer of Lucky Cement at the occasion.
Lucky Cement also holds the prestigious ISO 14001 certification for environment management, ISO 9001 certificate for its quality management system, and OHSAS 18001 for its occupational health and safety.
